I PASSED ON THIS STORY YESTERDAY

But now that the Mitten$ team is whining about it, it's worth a seperate post.  At first I passed this off as just another case of dog-whistle racism:
Mitt Romney would restore 'Anglo-Saxon' relations between Britain and America

We are part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage, and he feels that the special relationship is special,” the adviser said of Mr Romney, adding: “The White House didn’t fully appreciate the shared history we have”.
This remark is of a piece with Dinesh D'Souza's argument that Pres. Obama hates America and Britain because of colonialism.  (This argument is also supported by Glenda Beck.)

The Mitten$ campaign is now in full retreat, going so far as to blame the conservative Telegraph for getting the quote wrong:

Spokesman Ryan Williams angrily denounced the comment on Wednesday as "an anonymous and false quote from a foreign newspaper."

One book outlining how we have too much of a shared history is "A Man Called Intrepid."
