Police have released the name of the 21-year-old man who was shot and killed at a high school graduation party early this morning.

Miguel Altamirano was a guest at a party on the southwest side when he was shot and killed, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said.

The shooting occurred at about 1:45 a.m. in the front yard of a home in the 2700 block of West Calle Arandas between south Greasewood and Shannon roads, Widmer said.

Altamirano died at the scene. A 17-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, Widmer said.

“The residents of this home hosted a party for a Cholla High School graduation,” he said. “They had a number of invited guests attending the party and at some point guests that weren’t invited began arriving. At some point there was an altercation in the front yard. Shots were fired and victims were struck.”

Detectives are still on scene.
