Conservatives routinely point to the high percentage of black single mothers as one cause of the black poverty rate but that's not true. In the 1960s, the percent of black children born to single mothers was about 24% and in 2010 that rate had increased to 72%. IF this was truly a causal factor, then we should see a corresponding increase in the black poverty rate BUT WE DON'T:
