THIS SEEMS MORE PLAUSIBLE THAN GALLUP'S 40%

I've been suspicious of Gallup's claim that about 40% of Americans are conservative and this chart from a Pew study gives me some evidence:
This chart shows that one reason conservatives get disproportionally more atttention is their greater rate of participation in the political process:

Aside from the issue of libertarianism, I don't accept that "conservatism" includes any person who is in favor of maintaining any kind of necessarily Big Government necessitating interventionist policy in the Mideast. That excludes Cruz, Wenstrup, Chabot and a nationwide host of equivalent faux conservatives who share their attitudes.

I think conservatism changed with the advent of the Cold War.
