This coverage fits in perfectly with the wingers' meme that working whites are being discriminated against by welfare bums.

The reference to unions is an odd way to appeal to working-class whites, many of whom are (or would like to be) union members.
Talking about "union thugs" appeals to Randian business owners and professionals, but blue-collar folks will see it for the insult that it is.
