ABORTION & ARIZONA

I have noted the creeping Dobsonism in AZ below and today there was another manifestation by a state senator from Mesa.

PHOENIX -- State senators voted Wednesday to bar cities and counties from buying health insurance for their workers which includes coverage for abortions.

SB 1325 expands existing state laws which make it illegal to use public funds for any abortions. The only exception is to save the life of the woman.

Sen. Karen Johnson, R-Mesa, said some cities are taking advantage of what she sees as a loophole in the law: They are not funding abortions for their workers but simply purchasing health insurance -- insurance which also includes coverage for elective abortions.

Johnson, a foe of all abortions, said nothing in this legislation interferes with what the U.S. Supreme Court has concluded is the right of women -- including government workers -- to terminate their own pregnancies.

"The will of the people is they don't want their tax dollars used to take a life," she said.
