CHIPPING AWAY AT "MORE OF THE SAME" McCAIN

If we hope to have a rationally made choide this November, the press will have to stop putting a halo around John McCain. Michael Isikoff takes a step in that direction by noting all the lobbyists McCain has in his campaign and Isikoff points out that McCain chose Doug Goodyear to manage the RNC Convention. Not only is Goodyear also a lobbyist, he has ties to non-populist groups:

Goodyear is CEO of DCI Group, a consulting firm that earned $3 million last year lobbying for ExxonMobil, General Motors and other clients.

Potentially more problematic: the firm was paid $348,000 in 2002 to represent Burma's military junta, which had been strongly condemned by the State Department for its human-rights record and remains in power today.

This report must have stung because at the end of Isikoff's article, there's this update:
Editor's Note: Not long after Newsweek published this item, McCain's convention manager resigned.
