WORD OF THE WEEK

I've listened to Tony Snow when he had a radio show, substitute hosts for Fats and Hannity, and the word that comes to mind is "glib." This story lets us know that glibness is also valued on cable news.

Meet the make-believe strategists of TV

“Many of these sort of more junior folks who have sort of made it into the ranks of analyst/commentator/strategist,” says one high-ranking cable news executive, “are only too happy to talk about things they don’t know about. Part of the problem is that because, again, they’re very glib, they’re good on TV. And if you ask someone the question and they give you a good-sounding answer, you might not know by asking them that it’s not their area of expertise."

Jerry Doyle is one of these slick-talking morons who doesn't seem to even bother to read his local paper. I've caught him in mistakes before and tonight he claimed that David Brooks of the NYT was a liberal!

My favorite candidate for glib is Clear Channel "Weekend's" Rush wannabee, Mike McConnell. Every time in the past several years a caller pointed to Bush's obvious pre-war lying about WMDs, McConnell glibly rushes the caller off with "we all know Bush would've planted them there if he was really lying." But when he mentioned this absurdity, refuted by McConnell's own arguments, (he dismisses 9/11 truthers on the grounds no conspiracy can be successfully kept secret in the modern age of easy communication)to Vincent "try Bush for war crimes" Bugliosi, the LA prosecutor was astounded McConnell could attempt to defend Bush with such illogic. "Risk another huge crime when he assumes a quick victory and that he'll get away with this one? he asked. "You've got to be kidding."
Touche' Vincent.
