The wingnuts have gone nuts about this comment but Fowler is correct. McCain picked Palin because he had to pander to Mullah Dobson and the Fundies for any shot at winning in November.

Politico's Jonathan Martin reports that South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler told a Politico reporter today that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., had chosen a running mate" whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn't had an abortion."

Palin is an ardent opponent of abortion rights and earlier this year gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, who has Down Syndrome.
