For reasons I don't quite understand, Fox has decided that its core viewership needs to believe that it's getting the true news, free not of the lowest-common-demoninator crap, but of the encumbrances of liberal dogmas. Hence the fair and balanced fetishization.
It's because FAUX, like other parts of the GOP's Noise Machine, wants to discredit any other sources that don't toe the GOP line. How many times have we heard many of these conservative gasbags claim something like "you won't hear or read about this in the mainstream media." The point is that ONLY FAUX News and similar ideologically driven outlets can trusted to tell you the truth.

They need to do this at every opportunity, and be able to match FOX talking point for talking point, calmly, but not letting the shouting anchors drown them out. They need to make FOX anchors absolutely apoplectic with fury over being confronted with the truth.
