GLEN ALLEN, Va -
Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, poised to ascend to House Republicans' No. 2 leader this week, said the Republican Party in Washington is no longer "relevant" to voters and must stop simply espousing principles. Instead, it must craft real solutions to health care and the economy.
"I'm not one to say I'm the right guy, but I would hope, my case for this position is, I very much believe our party is one of limited government, lower taxes, belief in free markets, belief in a strong national defense posture with a cautious approach to making sure that happens.

Although Barbour agreed that it has been twenty years since Ronald Reagan was president and constant references to him may not resonate with younger voters (“Like when our parents talked about F.D.R.”), the onetime Reagan White House aide said that “the principles he stood for such as limited government, lower taxes and a strong national defense should remain Republican principles.

AUSTIN — Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, one of President Bush's strongest supporters in Washington until the two parted company over immigration reform, was re-elected Tuesday over Democratic challenger Rick Noriega.
He said Republicans needed to return to their "base values" of limited government, low taxes and strong national defense.
What I didn't find was any mention of the major issues for the Fundies: abortion and gay marriage. Does this mean that the GOP is turning away from them orare these just PR statements after a loss?
