ANOTHER LIE FROM FATS

Yesterday, Limbaugh lied about the results of the War on Poverty:
There has been literally no change in the percentage of people in poverty throughout the war on poverty.

In fact, in 1959 the overall poverty rate was 22.4% and by 1969 it had decreased to 13.7%.

Not the whole truth.

1959?

That was 5 years before the start of the 'war on poverty' in 1964. 1959 and 1960 were recession years as well - so this was a high point affected by the recession.

The point is this...
The rate was dropping BEFORE the 'war'. From 1959 to 1964 it dropped from 22% to about 15%. So... since the actual start of the 'war', the rate has stayed within a range of about 11% to 15%. And we've spent over $10 Trillion on 'poverty' programs since 1964. The result? Not much. Still in the 11-15% range - today about 12%.

Rush's point is not that we shouldn't do anything, but the way we do it is wrong. The left wants people to be dependent of government and therefore vote Democrat. Obama is deleting the work requirement. In other words, the more dependent people the better.

Here's a test:
Which party benefits more if more people are on welfare?
Which party benefits more if less people are on welfare?

So... follow the money and votes.

Check out this chart... see what happened when the welfare 'reform' was passed? WOW.

Nope, that's not true and please don't bother to link to anything from the hacks at Heritage.
