WHY DID RUMSFELD DRAG POWELL INTO THE DISCUSSION?

I've heard Rumsfeld say something like this during several of his recent media appearances:
DONALD RUMSFELD:Well, first of all, I haven’t lied. I did not lie then. Colin Powell didn’t lie. He spent weeks and weeks with the Central Intelligence Agency people and prepared a presentation that I know he believed was accurate, and he presented that to the United Nations.
In 2006, Colin Powell said of his UN presentation "the sourcing was inaccurate and wrong and in some cases, deliberately misleading."

If you review the columns on the subject by Ray McGovern and the history of Greg Thielmann, Powell's aide who resigned before the UN testimony, you will find that Poweel indeed lied.

Ken,

Thanx for the tip. I'll look into that.
