THE DECLINE OF POLITICAL DISCUSSION

Once in a while I'll hear one of the radio gasbags come up with some interpretation of an event that seems intellectually on a par with some of the goofy guests on Coast to Coast AM.   I find these instances amusing but it's not very funny when the rubes take it seriously, e.g., part of a comment about the Libya situation on a POLITICO thread:

The only reason they're letting Sarkozy do that is because they want to let France have the business in Libya instead of the Italians. It's impossible to let the Italians take over Libya because Berlusconi is such a poon hound.
