Local school boards are pre-empting Gov. Walker's attempt to bust the teachers' unions!
Green Bay, others voting to extend teacher contracts

In action that could undermine Gov. Scott Walker's attempts to curtail the bargaining rights of teachers and other public-sector workers, a number of school boards around Wisconsin are extending or renewing contracts with their teachers into the next school year.
The Green Bay School Board met for seven hours Sunday and scheduled a Monday night vote on a possible extension into the 2011-'12 school year of its teachers contract.
Within the last week, school boards and teachers in Columbus, Onalaska and Superior also have reached agreements for the next year, according to news reports.
This is the important part:-
Because the state constitution forbids the passage of state laws that interfere with contracts, any contract extensions or renewals would not be affected if the state Legislature were to ratify the collective bargaining rollbacks in Walker's budget-repair bill.
