The Southern Baptist Convention has decided to endorse giving illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, something many conservatives are firmly opposed to.

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Southern Baptist Convention approved a resolution at its meeting in Phoenix this week advocating a path to legal status for illegal immigrants.
Richard Land, president of the Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission in Washington, described the move as “a really classic illustration of Gospel love and Gospel witness.”
A motion to strike the reference to immigrants’ path to legal status was narrowly defeated by a vote of 766 to 723.
I looked at
the resolution and found that it began with many Biblical references, including this one:
WHEREAS, The Scriptures call us, in imitation of God Himself, to show compassion and justice for the sojourner and alien among us (Exodus 22:21; Deuteronomy 10:18-19; Psalm 94:6; Jeremiah 7:6; Ezekiel 22:29; Zechariah 7:10);
