One of Newt's daughters made a devastating comment on his ideas. From POLITICO:

“He’s been known for a while, prior to this, as a Fox commentator, New York Times bestselling author, inspirational speaker — all of those things he’s been for the last decade,” said Jackie Gingrich Cushman, the candidate’s daughter who sees her father reaching something like his political prime in his winter years.

“I’ve been listening to the speeches since I was 7,” she said. “They’re still largely the same, but he’s finding his voice. His ability to articulate has become clearer and clearer.”

Jackie was born in 1966, so Newt hasn't changed much since 1973.
