FOR YEARS I'VE BEEN PUZZLED BY THE ACCUSATION

that liberals favor equality of outcome over equality of opportunity and now I think I know what the conservatives are whining about: Affirmative Action.  Of course, one of the best ways to measure equality of opportunity is by equality of outcome, as Anne Philips has pointed out.

This infers that a preexisting condition of "lack of opportunity"
is always caused by factors solely other than hereditarian and also assumes remedial action can always be taken without punishing unduly
those who had "more opportunity."

It also infers the liberated women is happier than Harriet of Ozzie fame on average.

5. Alana Lentin notes that when it comes to immigration “an English-educated Indian professional may be more acceptable than a white, jobless Bulgarian”. Well, yes. So? Lentin seems unimpressed by this, and I find it interesting that she gives no reasons to substantiate her disapproval. For some commentators discrimination seems to be bad by its very nature. How they feel about job interviews, university applications and competitive sports is beyond me.
