I REALLY DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT MY OWN COUNTRY

In particular, this FB post by Rick Perlstein reminded me that I don't know much about the history of conservatism in America:
This photo shows that some conservatives have been against Social Security for over 40 years.

I also recently discovered that Baggers "constitutional conservatism" goes back at least to the journal Constitutional Review (1917-1929). Early contributors included Andrew Mellon, Charles C. Daws and William Howard Taft. Like the Baggers & Glenn Beck, the Review conflated Progressivism and Bolshevism. The Review was appalled at liberal attempts to constrain the judicial system, especially the so-called "Gateway Amendment" which would allow a mere majority vote to change the Constitution. (NOTE: I agree on this issue)  In addition, almost all forms of social legislation, such as the minimum wage and child welfare laws, were opposed in the name of the Free Market.
