YES, McCAIN IS A WAR WHORE

Matt Yglesias has a post that looks into McCain's hero, Teddy Roosevelt, and the war whore syndrome. He notes that Uncle Teddy saw war as a way to purify our culture:
Brooks writes that McCain and others worry “that we have become a nation obsessed with risk avoidance and safety.” The cure? To follow Roosevelt who “saw foreign-policy activism and patriotism as remedies for cultural threats he perceived at home.” De-euphemized, Roosevelt saw war as a positive good;

This makes a wonderful connection to modern day war whores like Laura Ingraham and Dennis Prager who mix a call for cultural purity with support for militarism. Many conservative thinkers, such as Richard Weaver and Leo Strauss, think of warfare as one of the pinnacles of human achievement. Modern thinkers, such as Bill Bennett or Michael Ledeen, have helped spread this ideology of militant nationalism and cultural purity. Even supposedly Christian ministers, such as Rod Parsley, promote this brutal thinking.
