THE REAL CLASS WARFARE

It's not the unions, as the wingnuts would have us believe, it's the MOTU. Thomas Frank has a couple of interesting quotes in his WSJ column, "It's Time to Give Voters the Liberalism They Want." The first is from Wal-Mart CEO Leo Scott about the proposal to have a simpler method for unionizing :
"We like driving the car and we're not going to give the steering wheel to anybody but us."

Scott is terrified that Wal-Mart may become unionized, thus making it harder to force people to work without pay or benefits.

The second is from Bernie Marcus, former CEO of The Home Depot:
"This is the demise of a civilization," moaned Bernie Marcus, cofounder and former CEO of The Home Depot, during an Oct. 17 conference call about card check. "This is how a civilization disappears. I'm sitting here as an elder statesman, and I'm watching this happen, and I don't believe it."

This reminded me of Cheney's repeated warnings in the run-up to the 2006 election that Western Civilization was at stake. Why do reactionaries always see the Apocalypse right around the corner?
